The Arc of Hilo has served adults with disabilities on the Big Island since 1954 — advocating, supporting, and creating pathways to independence. But advocacy only goes so far. What our community needed was work. Real jobs. Real paychecks. Real dignity.
Shredding came to us as the perfect fit. It's structured. It's teachable. It rewards attention to detail. And the demand is everywhere — every medical office, every law firm, every small business on this island has paper they can't afford to keep or carelessly throw away.
So we built DocuShred. Not a charity. A business. A good business, with certified destruction, compliance, real equipment, and real weights. And a team of trainees turning up every shift to weigh bins, run the shredders, and do good work.
The paper comes in. The paper goes out — pulped, recycled, reborn as something new. Same goes for the people we employ.
